Iteris Enhances Detection Systems with New Sensor Fusion Technology for Optimal Performance and Safety

3 min. Read • Posted 03/05/2024

Iteris has long been at the forefront of traffic detection technology, setting new standards for safety, efficiency and reliability. Several industry firsts mark our journey of innovation - from the introduction of the first wide dynamic range camera in 2010 to the launch of the first true 1080p HD video and 4D/HD radar detection system with integrated AI in 2021.

Over the past 20 years, we've proudly earned a reputation for delivering the most accurate and reliable high-performance detection systems available. Continuing this legacy of innovation, we are thrilled to unveil our latest advancement in traffic detection: Sensor Fusion.

Sensor Fusion: Merging Vision and Radar for Unmatched Accuracy

At Iteris, we understand that the challenges facing modern detection systems are as diverse as they are complex. From the dense fog of early mornings to the unpredictable shadows cast by different landscapes, ensuring accurate vehicle detection requires a solution that sees beyond the limitations of conventional technologies.

Sensor Fusion is our response to this challenge.

It combines the strengths of radar and video detection from our Vantage Vector hybrid sensor by intelligently fusing data from both independent algorithms, setting a new benchmark for accuracy and performance.

It's designed to thrive where singular detection systems falter, offering unparalleled precision in vehicle detection across every scenario—be it under the harsh glare of the sun or vehicle occlusion.

Best of all, Iteris detection customers can effortlessly upgrade their existing systems to incorporate Sensor Fusion with our latest firmware release.

This feature is now available across the following detection systems:

  • Vantage Next – Firmware Version 09.02.25SP2
  • Vantage Next Max – Firmware 09.05.25SP2
  • Vantage Apex – Firmware 10.01.02SP3

Seeing is everything: the benefits of Sensor Fusion

For traffic engineers and system integrators, Sensor Fusion represents a profound leap forward. Vantage detection systems equipped with this technology can achieve over 99% detection accuracy, ensuring smooth and safe traffic flow under the most challenging conditions.

This advancement not only reduces complaints and operational issues but also significantly enhances public safety and satisfaction.

Other features included in this firmware release

While Sensor Fusion is a cornerstone of our latest firmware update, it's important to highlight other enhancements included in the firmware release.

  • Port Forwarding: Addressing network complexities, we've introduced Port Forwarding in our detection setup tools (NST, NST-8, RST, AST), allowing for seamless operation of multiple systems behind a single cell modem, without port conflicts.
  • Delay on Count Zones: An optional delay setting for count zones has been added to improve object detection accuracy, especially useful in scenarios like horizontal bike paths.
  • Red-Light Running Outputs: This optional channel output for Red-Light Running data enables the collection of valuable data to inform and focus safety measures at critical intersections.
  • Hold and Reject Call Function: A new function in Vantage Vector detection sensors that allows for more refined control over traffic detection.
  • Security Enhancements: We've bolstered internal network router security, safeguarding against cybersecurity threats and ensuring the integrity of traffic management systems.

Upgrade to the latest firmware today!

This update is not just about introducing new features; it's about paving the way for safer, more efficient intersections. We invite you to harness the power of Iteris' Sensor Fusion technology and take advantage of the additional enhancements today.
