Iteris Celebrates Bike Month by Promoting Safe Bicycling Skills

As a Bicycle Friendly Business and a strong advocate of bike safety, Iteris will be celebrating National Bike Month with a truly beneficial initiative.

Iteris isn’t simply a company made up of transportation technology enthusiasts – our employees really do walk the talk, with many of them promoting, advocating for and actually living a multimodal lifestyle wherever possible.

Lifesaving skills

As the proud recipient of the The League of American Bicyclists’ Bicycle Friendly Business honor in 2017 for making our workplaces and communities safer, happier, healthier, and more sustainable through bicycling, we are excited to offer a Safe Bicycling Skills Clinic to all employees in celebration of National Bike Month.

Led by instructors from The League of American Bicyclists, the clinic is geared towards cyclists of all levels, as well as aspiring cyclists, and further serves to reinforce our long history of encouraging and incentivizing employees to use alternative modes of transportation.

Lifesaving technology

Bike Month also conveniently coincides with the launch of our official explainer video for the award-winning SmartCycle® Bike Indicator – a first-of-its-kind bike safety device that mounts onto traffic signals and illuminates when cyclists waiting at an intersection have been detected, crucially, without the need to dismount into a hazardous roadway and press a button.

The Bike Indicator, which leverages SmartCycle's patented bicycle detection algorithm, won the 2018 BIG Innovation Award from the Business Intelligence Group and was also named as a finalist in Fast Company’s highly esteemed World Changing Ideas Awards.

Events promoting change

As well as our Bike Share program, which makes Iteris-branded bicycles available year round to employees as part of our Thriving Communities initiative, Iteris also supports Bike to Work Week (May 14-18), Bike to Work Day (May 18) and CycloFemme (May 13), which celebrates women worldwide, promoting positive social change by advocating for self-led bike rides around the globe.
