Today is National Walk and Bike to School Day. October is also National Pedestrian Safety Month.

In observance of these events, Iteris is once again taking the opportunity to promote pedestrian (and bike) safety awareness by highlighting some recent resources from Iteris traffic technology leaders that detail precisely how smart mobility solutions can help to save lives at intersections in cities nationwide.

Optimizing signal timing

Read an article by Pete Yauch on how accurate signal timing can save pedestrian lives at the intersection.

Improving pedestrian detection algorithms

Understand how smart traffic sensors enhance safety for pedestrians and bicyclists by reading Michael Whiting's recent article on improvements to Iteris' detection algorithms.

Analyzing pedestrian count data

Read Allison Palumbo's article on using a combination of hardware and software solutions to understand pedestrian activity at the intersection to improve pedestrian safety.

Implementing vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) technology

And last but by no means least, watch the below video to learn how V2X technology can alert drivers of the presence of pedestrians at the intersection:
