? Contract to Design the Upgrade and Expansion of Oxnard's Traffic Control System Valued at $750,000 ?

SANTA ANA, Calif. ?Iteris, Inc., a leader in traffic management focused on the development and application of advanced technologies, was awarded a contract by the city of Oxnard for the design phase of the Oxnard Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Master Plan project. The contract, valued at $750,000, is expected to begin immediately and span approximately six months.

Installation of the new Oxnard ITS will play an integral part of the city?s overall traffic mitigation plan. The new system is meant to improve the conditions at several major intersections that have continued to be problematic for drivers. The system will be designed to improve the flow of vehicles citywide, more finely calibrate traffic signals, and improve the city?s ability to respond to traffic snarls.

The project involves implementing an Ethernet-based communication system between nearly 200 signalized intersections, as well as possibly incorporating signalized intersections from adjacent agencies, like the city of Port Hueneme and the county of Ventura. The new communication system will include a combination of new fiber optic cable and wireless technologies designed to provide citywide communications and maximize the city?s investment. The project also adds a new Traffic Management Center to further improve transportation management capabilities, including video surveillance of traffic and the ability to inform drivers of detours and accidents in real time.

?These planned improvements are in line with the city?s ITS Master Plan, which was completed by Iteris in 2008,? stated Abbas Mohaddes, president and chief executive officer of Iteris. ?This new intelligent transportation system will be designed to not only improve mobility and safety for the traveling public, but provide the tools for the city to more efficiently and effectively manage its transportation network. We look forward to helping the city deliver congestion relief and provide better quality of life to city residents and area commuters.?
