Iteris Selected to Provide Traffic Signal Synchronization Services to the Orange County Transportation Authority
-- Contract for Traffic Signal Synchronization Implementation on Three Corridors within Orange County
Valued at $1.7 million --
SANTA ANA, Calif. ? Iteris, Inc., a leader in traffic management focused on the development and application of advanced technologies, has been selected by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to complete design work, implement, and provide support services for traffic signal synchronization (TSS) on three corridors within Orange County, California. The contract is valued at approximately $1.7 million and work is expected to begin immediately.
The objective of this TSS project is to improve traffic flow through the synchronization of signalized intersections along the three corridors of Bristol Street/State College Boulevard, Harbor Boulevard, and Westminster Avenue/17th Street. This will involve optimizing signal timings to increase throughput, decrease travel times, and reduce overall delay. The TSS project is required for these corridors in order to meet federal air quality mandates within the South Coast Air Basin. The implementation on all three corridors is expected to be completed by June 2011.
?Working with Iteris to synchronize traffic signals along these corridors is key to accomplishing OCTA?s goal of improving the flow of traffic in our communities,? commented Ron Keith, principal traffic engineer for the Orange County Transportation Authority. ?Implementing signal synchronization will enhance our transportation system while also improving air quality.?
Abbas Mohaddes, Iteris? president and chief executive officer, noted, ?Traffic signal synchronization is an ideal method to reduce traffic congestion and help agencies meet federal air quality mandates. Iteris has extensive experience in implementing intelligent transportation systems, including traffic signal synchronization, and we look forward to working with OCTA on this important project.?
