Good Movement/Commercial Vehicle Operations (CVO)
Iteris has conducted numerous studies related to goods movement, commercial vehicle operations (CVO). Infrastructure oriented projects have spanned a full spectrum of planning through to implementation. Planning activities have included truck traffic forecasting model development as well as measuring the impact of truck demand on regional facilities, and have encompassed corridor and regional projects. These have been complemented by design work such as railroad grade crossing analysis.
In the commercial vehicles operational arena, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN) program promotes state and federal projects related to improving commercial vehicle safety, optimizing enforcement resources and promoting efficient motor carrier operations. Since the inception of the program, Iteris has provided states with leadership in CVISN project management, planning and training activities. This has included filling the roles of CVISN State Advisor, CVISN project Manager and CVISN System Architect. In these positions, Iteris has pioneered the approach of using the National ITS Architecture as the framework with which state-specific CVISN architectures and program plans are developed.
Beyond the initial training, planning and deployment activities included within the core program elements of CVISN, the FMCSA, in partnership with both states and industry, has targeted several areas for emphasis in a new “Expanded CVISN” concept. These new programs comprise Driver Information, Enhanced Safety Information, Smart Roadsides and Expanded eCredentialing. Iteris maintains membership in key working groups associated with each of the new program areas. In addition, Iteris provides CVISN technology assessment and testing services in such areas as Virtual Weigh Station, Web services and data integration technologies.
