Advanced Traveler Information Systems Traveler Information Systems are designed to provide travelers with real-time traffic information, enabling them to make optimum route and mode selection decisions. These deployments combine elements of data collection, data fusion, and data dissemination. Iteris has played a key role in these areas for a number of public and private sector clients.
- Internet Traffic Maps
- Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR)
- Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs)
- Cable Television
- Kiosks/Display Boards
- Dynamic Message Signs
- Telematics
- Highway Advisory Telephone
- Highway Advisory Radio
CommuteView (www.commuteview.net) is a personalized traveler information system that allows subscribers to select the data that they want (congestion, incident, travel times), schedule receipt of that traffic information when they want it, and receive the data on the device of their choice. It has been deployed and operational since February 2004 with approximately 1000 evaluation users.
CommuteCall is an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system that provides access to dynamic and personalized traveler information. This system utilizes the latest in text-to-speech and IVR capabilities to automate all of the system operations. The system has been deployed since September 2004 and a demonstration is available at www.commutecall.com (1-888-TRIP-411).
CommunityView-Cable TV (CV-C) is a broadcast traveler information system that takes information from the CommunityView-Internet site and makes that information available to users via the community access television system. The CV-C system also provides a scheduling capability for the local agency to program the broadcast schedule for their local access channel.
CommunityView-Internet (CV-I) -- http://traffic.iteris.com/communityview provides the users with integrated information from across the southern California region via an Internet interface. Travel time, incident, congestion, road construction, and weather information are provided through this deployment. It recently was selected by the five-county region as the traffic information provider for their one-stop shop (www.commutesmart.info).
Commutesmart.info A number of the local county transportation agencies have created a single clearinghouse of information to assist the local commuters in the Southern California area. Marketed under the Internet site of www.commutesmart.info, agencies like Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC), San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG), Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), and Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) are providing a "one-stop" shop for area commuters interested in rideshare, transit, and traveler information services. To assist with the dissemination of traveler information, Iteris developed customized traffic maps that expanded the coverage areas to include the high desert of San Bernardino County providing coverage along the I-15 north to state line, an enhanced view of the San Bernardino mountain communities, the low desert providing coverage into the Coachella Valley area, south to the Riverside County line just south of Temecula. The expanded coverage area includes ramp-to-ramp travel times by freeway, congestion, road construction (where available), incidents, and general weather conditions.
