Architecture Change: Wireless Roadside Inspection

Implemented in Version: 7.0
Change Description: The National ITS Architecture is now consistent with the Wireless Roadside Inspection (WRI) program, sponsored by FMCSA. Using "wireless inspections", the public sector examines the condition of the commercial vehicle and driver by assessing data collected by on-board systems and delivered in real time to the public sector infrastructure. This approach could dramatically increase the number of times a commercial vehicle and driver are examined, leading to better-targeted enforcement and thereby reducing the number of truck and bus crashes. As part of this update, the existing on-board safety service package (CVO08) was substantially revised including updates to define, manage, and communicate geographic trigger areas where safety data is to be provided and addition of wide-area wireless interfaces that transfer the on-board safety data from commercial vehicles.
