Driver Safety Monitoring System (Equipment Packages*)

This equipment package monitors the driver’s condition and warns the driver of potential dangers. This equipment package includes driver sensors to assess the suitability of the driver (e.g., fitness and alertness) to assume manual control of the vehicle.

    Functional Requirements*:
    1. The vehicle shall collect and monitor data concerning the safety of the driver - including, indication of the ability of the driver to control the vehicle, negative factors being such things as alcohol on the breath, too many mistakes, etc. Injury indicators could pick up on any detectable problems with the vehicle occupants, e.g. sudden change in heart rate, pulse, breathing, etc.
    2. The vehicle shall determine the driver's ability to control the vehicle based on inputs received from the driver sensors.
    3. The vehicle shall provide warnings to the driver of potential dangers based on sensor input and analysis concerning the alertness and fitness of the driver.
    4. The vehicle shall present information to the driver in audible or visual forms without impairing the driver's ability to control the vehicle in a safe manner.
