Border Inspection Systems (Terminator*)
This terminator represents data systems used at the border for the inspection of people or goods. Supports immigration, customs (trade), agricultural, and FDA inspections as applicable. Includes sensors and surveillance systems to identify and classify drivers and their cargo as it approaches a border crossing, the systems used to interface with the back-office administration systems and provide information on status of the crossing or events to other agency systems.Inputs/Outputs: Architecture Flows* and Data Flows*
Border Inspection Systems
Archived Data Management
- border wait times archived data (Architecture Flow*) - Wait time data to be archived and used for planning and analysis activities.
Data Flows*:
Border Inspection Systems
Commercial Vehicle
- border pass/pull-in (Architecture Flow*) - Command to commercial vehicle to pull into or bypass border inspection station
Data Flows*: - clearance notification (Architecture Flow*) - Notification that cargo has been cleared through customs.
Data Flows*:
Border Inspection Systems
Commercial Vehicle Administration
- arrival notification (Architecture Flow*) - Notification of arrival (and departure) of a motor vehicle at the inspection station.
Data Flows*:
Border Inspection Systems
Commercial Vehicle Check
- inspection results (Architecture Flow*) - Report of results of border inspection on a particular load.
Data Flows*:
Border Inspection Systems
Emergency Management
- border incident information (Architecture Flow*) - Notification of existence of incident in the vicinity of the border. Information would include expected severity, location, time and nature of incident. As additional information is gathered and the incident evolves, updated incident information is provided.
Data Flows*:
Border Inspection Systems
Information Service Provider
- border crossing status information (Architecture Flow*) - Port of entry status including current wait-times, lane configuration and status including closures and restrictions, and notification of incidents at the border

Traffic Management
- border incident information (Architecture Flow*) - Notification of existence of incident in the vicinity of the border. Information would include expected severity, location, time and nature of incident. As additional information is gathered and the incident evolves, updated incident information is provided.
Data Flows*: - border wait times data (Architecture Flow*) - Measure of current, actual, or predicted wait time at border. Measurement provided by vehicle type, lane, and type of lane (e.g. NEXUS vs. regular).
Data Flows*: - lane management inputs (Architecture Flow*) - This flow provides inputs to dynamic lane management systems including the types of vehicles to allow in each lane.
Data Flows*: - remote surveillance control (Architecture Flow*) - The control commands used to remotely operate another center's sensors or surveillance equipment so that roadside surveillance assets can be shared by more than one agency.
Data Flows*:
Commercial Vehicle
Border Inspection Systems
- tag data (Architecture Flow*) - Unique tag ID and related vehicle information.
Data Flows*:
Emergency Management
Border Inspection Systems
- border incident response status (Architecture Flow*) - Status of the current incident response at a border crossing, including a summary of incident status and its impact on the transportation system, traffic management strategies implemented at the site (e.g., closures, diversions, traffic signal control overrides), and current and planned response activities.
